FN SLP MK1 gets out of prison tomorrow

Oh yeah ladies, my semi-auto shotgun gets out of lock up tomorrow. Lock-Up = The Kommiefornia 10 day wait period.

Lowjack, would you mind if I PM you once I get it to educated about how the different loads works and about the choke tubes? I know rifles and pistols but I'm a shotgun newbie.

Yeah no Problem.

I've got an FN SLP as well. I have the version with the ghost peep on top.

Comes with two gas pistons. The red one is medium, the black is heavy. Since I bought it to shoot buckshot, I normally keep the black in it. If you put the red in it for some lighter practice, you will still need high brass loads to cycle it reliably. Cheap low brass one ounce loads will result in incomplete ejection on mine about every three shots. Look for some high brass loads with a shot load over an ounce. That should work for practice.

With the black piston in place and using full power buckshot, it is an amazing shotgun. Totally reliable and it cycles very fast. When you take one apart, looking at the parts will show you the quality you paid for. Robust.

Mine lives in its case right next to the bed. Buckshot in the tube, empty chamber. For checking out "weird noises in the night," my first choice will still be one of my handguns. But when the weird noise becomes "bad guys," that shotgun would feel mighty comforting.

Does your particular 18.5 inch barrel take choke tubes (most dont), or is just the standard cylinder bore. That would be the first thing to check out. :emotions16:

If not, then until you put another barrel on there, you dont have to worry about chokes.

Other wise, very nice shotty!

Gregg,

There are SO MANY ways I could go, I just had to say something.

Consider rewording your adjectives?

LOL!!!

You are absolutely correct though.

Heavier shot and 'high brass' shells are the way to go for most any shotgun.

Pump or semi-auto.

Congrats GD, looks like she'll be fun http://i34.tinypic.com/29upr4l.gif

If you are in So Cal, let me know and I'll send you some info on fun defensive shotgun training, that won't break the bank.

Yeah it comes with an additional choke tube for slugs. BTW - I purchases 2 boxed of Remmington target load that's 1 1/8 ounces so I don't think I'll have any issues.

BTW Johndoh, I'd love to see your info on defensive shotgun training. :ok:

Any recommendations on buckshot for this particular rifle?

Re: FN SLP MK1 gets out of prison tomorrow

PM'd you info on the training -- I didn't want to spam the board.

OMB Express has Winchester Ranger low recoil 00 buck and slugs at a reasonable price, especially when they're running a free shipping special.

This is my favorite buckshot load. Can't beat 12 00 buck in one shell!

The FN does come with a barrel that uses choke tubes. Winchoke variety. If I remember right, one in the barrel and two in a bag. And a choke tube wrench. I have the most open variety installed in my shotgun.

But isn't the police stuff non-lethal?

Are you being tongue in cheek? If so, use an emoticon or something!

That 12 pellet 00 Buck load is about as far from "non-lethal" as you can get. I've killed animals up close and personal with it and it is truly devastating.

Sorry, my bad. I forgot the damn emoticon, when my boss walked in my office. :coolbeer:

Isn't that an "extended" mag for Kommiefornia?

10 days! And it isn't a long gun, it's a shotgun ferchistssake! I didn't think they even ran yellow forms on those till my wife picked up a Mossy pistol grip a gunshow or two ago.

Gregg

Tulsamal, I order 10 boxes today. Which gas piston do you recommend, or will the one that's installed work fine? Thanks buddy.

Re: FN SLP MK1 gets out of prison tomorrow

I don't remember what came installed. For buckshot, you want the "heavy" one. That's black. Kind of look through the holes. One is black inside and the other is red.

In the PRK a shotgun is a long gun. 10 day wait for everything. Extended mag applies only to removable box mags, which are illegal in California.
